This will help you to gain the essential skills needed to progress your studies or become a working social policy researcher.
You’ll enhance your understanding of the techniques used in the analysis of large-scale data and how to effectively present key insights and findings.
This course is designed to provide high-quality training to potential doctoral students, as well as essential research skills that are desirable in a number of private and public sector roles.
General course structure:
-Develop your ability to understand, collect and analyse complex and evolving forms of digital data.
-Identify, investigate and present your own piece of original research. You'll do this across 12 months.During this unit, you'll receive guidance to develop the necessary research skills to produce a pilot study and a dissertation of academic and professional quality.You'll identify an appropriate methodology and engage with relevant theory and data to answer your research question(s).
-Gain key knowledge of the various research practices and theories in qualitative and quantitative approaches to research. This will give you the foundation skills to progress through this course
-Explore the philosophical foundations of social research. This will help you to distinguish between different research paradigms and methodologies. You'll critically analyse disciplinary and interdisciplinary research approaches, and basic and applied research methods. This will enhance your understanding of these and the situations in which they can be used. You'll also develop a better understanding of the societal, political and ethical contexts of the social research process.
